Many Black Americans cheered, pumped their fists and exchanged high-fives, while many White Americans gasped in disbelief and anger. Some say America is a nation of immigrants who bolster the economy and reinvigorate the country. Kent Nishimura/Getty ImagesPoliticians have adopted the Simpson trial playbookThere was a surreal moment during the Simpson trial that could have been easily missed. Critics say Simpson spent years running away from his Blackness with as much vigor as he eluded NFL defenders. Simpson may have died this week, but he helped give birth to the America we now live in.

Despite persistent accusations of using racist language over the years, Trump won 12% of the Black vote in 2020, which was the highest a Republican president has received in recent decades. Jasmine Harris, the Biden campaign's media director, who is Black, said Trump was an "anti-Black tyrant" and "the proud poster boy for modern racism," per NBC News. Chesebro pleaded guilty in a Fulton County court to conspiracy to commit filing of false documents, one day after another former lawyer for Trump, Sidney Powell, also pleaded guilty in the case that had been scheduled to begin on Monday. The plea agreements mean that the first scheduled trial in the case, which was set to give Trump and other co-defendants a preview of the state’s case, will not happen. The Georgia case is one of four state or federal criminal cases that Trump is facing and one of two specifically focused on his attempts to overturn his election defeat. Trump, the frontrunner for the 2024 Republican presidential nomination, has pleaded not guilty and continues to falsely claim his loss was the result of fraud. Powell and Chesebro have both been identified as likely co-conspirators in a separate election interference case against Trump in Washington, D.C., federal court. ATLANTA (AP) — A Georgia state Senate committee says it will start its own investigation of jail conditions in the state's most populous county, three months after the U.S. Justice Department unveiled its own inquiry of Fulton County jail conditions. “Now, we can’t solve all the problems that Fulton County may have, or any other county for that fact,” Albers said. Fulton County's main jail, which opened in 1989 in a neighborhood west of downtown Atlanta, has been plagued by overcrowding, unsanitary conditions and violence. Six people have died in Fulton County custody since the end of July. Fulton County Commission Chairman Robb Pitts has said he wants to seek other solutions, in part because such an expensive undertaking would probably require a tax increase on Fulton County's million-plus residents.

A live video of a court proceeding showed Hall pleaded guilty to five counts of conspiracy to commit intentional interference with the performance of election duties, a misdemeanor charge. Trump has denied wrongdoing and said the case is part of a political witch hunt. Trump has denied wrongdoing and pleaded not guilty in those cases as well.

Scott Hall, one of 18 co-defendants of former President Donald Trump in the Georgia election interference case, pleaded guilty Friday to multiple criminal charges. Hall, a bail bondsman, is the first defendant in the case to plead guilty in the case. Hall, who pleaded guilty to five misdemeanor counts as part of a negotiated deal, will avoid spending time behind bars. Like all other defendants in the case, Hall had pleaded not guilty to the charges brought by Atlanta District Attorney Fani Willis. But earlier Friday, an attorney for Hall submitted a court filing waiving his indictment in the case.

But there was "no such concern" in this case, they argued, " because months earlier Microsoft had archived all the e-mails in Fulton County Superior Court." Attorneys for Kenneth Chesebro, a pro-Trump lawyer, argued the search warrant used to obtain emails from his MSN email account ahead of his indictment "is defective" and the search and seizure of the emails was "illegal." Those two factors are "fatal to the search warrant," they argued. A spokesman for Fulton District Attorney Fani Willis, who is prosecuting Chesebro, Trump, and 17 others in the Georgia election case, declined to comment on the filings. Chesebro and Sidney Powell, another pro-Trump attorney charged in the case, were granted speedy trials.

The preemptory step by Fulton County District Attorney Fani Willis comes after the grand jurors who returned the 41-count indictment against Trump and 18 others were subjected to harassment when their information was posted online. Willis wrote in a motion filed Wednesday that the grand jurors' information was posted “with the intent to harass and intimidate them." Political Cartoons View All 1146 ImagesLegal experts have said it's standard for indictments in Georgia to include the names of the grand jurors, in part because it provides defendants the opportunity to challenge the composition of the grand jury. So the names of the 23 grand jurors who heard the district attorney's evidence and voted to approve charges were included on the indictment. Attached to Willis' motion were sworn statements from Atlanta Police Chief Darin Schierbaum and an investigator in Willis' office.

CNN —Fulton County District Attorney Fani Willis wants to keep the identities of jurors who may be chosen to hear the Georgia 2020 election interference case secret, after grand jurors who issued the indictment against Donald Trump and his allies were doxed online, according to a new court filing. “Based on the doxing of Fulton County grand jurors and the Fulton County District Attorney, it is clearly foreseeable that trial jurors will likely be doxed should their names be made available to the public,” according to the filing. The names of the grand jurors were included on the indictment as a matter of practice for indictments in Fulton County. However, the indictment, which is a public record available on the court website, does not include their addresses or any other personally identifiable information. It notes that personal information for Willis and members of her family was also shared online.

Fulton County Sheriff's Acquire Licensing Rights Read moreATLANTA, Aug 28 (Reuters) - Lawyers for Donald Trump’s onetime chief of staff Mark Meadows are set to argue in court Monday that a federal judge should take over a Georgia criminal case alleging he and the former U.S. president conspired to subvert the 2020 election. Meadows is seeking to move his case to federal court, where he would face a larger and more politically diverse jury pool than in Fulton County, Georgia, the Atlanta-area Democratic stronghold where he was indicted. U.S. District Judge Steven Jones’ decision on the matter could have broad implications for Trump and his co-defendants, some of whom also have sought to move their cases to federal court. State law would still apply if the case is moved to federal court. Prosecutors say Meadows furthered the alleged scheme by arranging calls and meetings where Trump pressured election officials to change the vote count in his favor.

Donald Trump's mugshot was released to the public on Thursday by the Fulton County Sheriff's office. Fans and critics of Trump are now selling mugs, t-shirts, and other merch with the mugshot. Some independent sellers say the mugshot merch has helped them turn a profit for the first time. Trump's own campaign is selling beverage coolers, t-shirts, and posters plastered with the image, and the tagline: Never Surrender! While some sellers say they're making political statements through the items they're selling, others suggest their focus is capitalizing on an unprecedented moment in the news cycle — and American history.

Unlike the other authorities, who gave him a pass, Georgia opted to process him like any other criminal defendant, including fingerprints and a mug shot, in a case stemming from Trump's efforts to overturn his 2020 election loss in the state. Trump wasted little time using the mug shot for fundraising purposes, posting it on X, the site formerly known as Twitter, as well as on his own social media platform, Truth Social. Outside the Fulton County Jail on Thursday, some Trump supporters questioned why a mug shot was needed. "The mug shot isn't necessary and is done to hurt him. "We want them to take a mug shot.
